The overwhelming passion for architecture and design that practice
director José Gutiérrez has is the driving force behind the practice. José
leads a team of highly skilled architects, whose ethos has always aimed
to maintain an open and responsive approach to each individual brief.
This means that design solutions are project-specific, with more emphasis
placed on the experience of the end user rather than the reinforcement of
an architectural style. This is underlined by an ethos that, fundamentally,
architecture should be an engaging creative medium, accessible,
inspiring, and relevant to the people who interact with it.
Practice director José was born in Lima, Peru, and migrated to
Auckland in his early childhood. José has always maintained strong
connections to his Latin American heritage, which became fused with
his life experiences of growing up in New Zealand.
He graduated with an honours degree in architecture from
the University of Auckland in 2000. After graduating, he spent his time
between the UK and New Zealand, working with leading architects
in London and Auckland, establishing Jose Gutierrez Ltd in 2008.
Since then, it has gone on to become a successful, award-winning
architectural design practice, with a broad range of work across the
residential and commercial sectors. Jose Gutierrez Ltd is a Te Kāhui
Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects registered practice.
