Chris Tate is a renowned New Zealand designer celebrated for his
bold, sculptural approach to residential architecture.
Founder of Chris Tate Architecture, he is best known for his
innovative designs that blur the boundary between art and structure.
Chris’s work often explores strong geometric forms, resulting in
spaces that are both minimalist and dramatic. With projects across
New Zealand and internationally, his portfolio reflects a continual
exploration of new ideas earning him recognition as one of New
Zealand’s most distinctive contemporary architectural voices.
Originally from Auckland, Chris now resides in rural Waikato with his
wife, family, and nine pet sheep.
Chris recently won Home of the Year 2025 for Bunker House, an
enigmatic structure in Piha on Auckland’s west coast. The same project
was shortlisted in the 2025 World Architecture Festival.
